What is the Headway app? Blinkist List

When evaluating a tool or service, the majority of people right away jump into what they like and do not like. That’s an error, specifically when looking at among many services in a specific classification. In this case, book summaries. Blinkist List

The idea of a book summary itself has some specific benefits and drawbacks. Naturally, these will transfer to Blinkist and any other book summary service. You can’t actually blame a specific company for them.

Let’s first look at those, so we can better determine the special benefits and drawbacks of Blinkist later on.

Pros of reading book summaries:.
You’ll avoid all unnecessary info. This is specifically helpful for books that only make one or a couple of good points. It likewise assists you prevent bad books completely.
You can learn about more and various topics quicker. Instead of being stuck on one book about meditation for a month, you can read a summary in a few minutes. You can leap to the next mindfulness book or a new subject completely.
You’ll likely keep in mind more without remembering. Since book summaries center around realities and short methods to highlight them, you’ll likely come away from one summary with 3-5 things you’ll remember. If you check out a complete book without bearing in mind, it’s difficult to appropriately memorize anything.
Cons of reading book summaries:.
You’ll lose most of the story and humor of the book. This is bad, since it makes reading enjoyable. Depending on just how much you connect with the story, it likewise assists you remember a lot, even if you may need to bear in mind.
You will miss out on big ideas and spontaneous insights from truly fantastic books. The best books strike hard with every page. It’s impossible to transfer all of their understanding into a summary. Some books you just have to check out in full to get the most out of them.
Due to an absence of context, you may translate realities the wrong way. Sometimes, a summary mentions an idea one way, whereas the context of the book sets it up in another. But since that context is now missing, you’re translating the idea differently and therefore get an impression the author didn’t want you to have.
You are now trusting not simply the author of the book, however also whoever wrote the summary. You lose if the summary writer does a bad job. They may stop working to include an important story and so you will not keep in mind an essential reality.

Again, these apply to all book summaries and the services that provide them. So with those in mind, let’s turn our attention to the Blinkist app user experience.

How does it feel to utilize the Blinkist app?

Downloading the app is complimentary. When you open the app for the first time, you’ll get a brief tutorial of how whatever works.

Among the first things you’ll notice is that the app just has three tabs for you to choose from:.

Discover. This is where you can explore their library and find new titles.
Library. Here, you’ll have access to your individual choice of books.
You. This is where your settings and saved highlights are.

This is fantastic, since it makes browsing the app and picking what to do really simple. Let’s take a look at the individual tabs.

Blinkist extremely heavily advertised at me, so I decided to try. Blinkist is an app that has many functions, they have audio books, they have podcasts and initial content, however the main selling point, the thing that they advertise, the thing that makes them different from other audiobook apps, is that they declare they can offer you the bottom lines of any non-fiction book in 15 minutes. Essentially, they are advertising themselves as an alternative to listening or checking out books to full audio books by, and I quote here from their website: “Listen or read to the crucial concepts from best-selling nonfiction titles in 15 minutes” So the idea is that you get their app, you subscribe to it, and you can listen to as many books as possible that are condensed to 15 minutes, and they claim that you will still get the key concepts and an understanding of what the book is about.

I was suspicious, I am a reader and even though I do not check out much non-fiction, given that I much prefer reading fiction, I do read some of it, some of the books that I saw marketed on Blinkist as 15-minute summaries, I simply could not picture being condensable into 15 minutes. Because we are talking about some really big books, about heavy, complex concepts that I simply didn’t think you can squeeze into 15 minutes. Okay, so I’ve got the Blinkist app in the Google Play Shop and I’m going to install that. Blinkist List
