When evaluating a tool or service, many people immediately jump into what they like and do not like. That’s a mistake, particularly when looking at one of lots of services in a specific category. In this case, book summaries. Calibre Plugin Getabstract

The concept of a book summary itself has some specific benefits and downsides. Naturally, these will transfer to Blinkist and any other book summary service. You can’t really blame a specific company for them.

Let’s very first look at those, so we can better identify the unique pros and cons of Blinkist later.

Pros of reading book summaries:.
You’ll skip all unneeded information. This is especially helpful for books that just make one or a couple of good points. It also assists you prevent bad books altogether.
You can find out about more and different subjects quicker. Instead of being stuck on one book about meditation for a month, you can check out a summary in a couple of minutes. You can jump to the next mindfulness book or a new subject completely.
You’ll likely remember more without taking notes. Given that book summaries center around realities and short methods to illustrate them, you’ll likely come away from one summary with 3-5 things you’ll remember. It’s hard to appropriately remember anything if you check out a full book without taking notes.
Cons of reading book summaries:.
You’ll lose the majority of the story and humor of the book. This is bad, since it makes checking out enjoyable. Depending on just how much you get in touch with the story, it likewise assists you keep in mind a lot, even if you may have to keep in mind.
You will miss out on big ideas and spontaneous insights from genuinely excellent books. The very best books strike hard with every page. It’s impossible to move all of their knowledge into a summary. Some books you just have to check out in full to get the most out of them.
Due to a lack of context, you might interpret realities the wrong way. Sometimes, a summary states an idea one method, whereas the context of the book sets it up in another. But because that context is now missing out on, you’re interpreting the idea differently and thus get an impression the author didn’t desire you to have.
You are now trusting not simply the author of the book, however likewise whoever composed the summary. You lose if the summary writer does a bad job. They might fail to include a crucial story and so you won’t keep in mind a vital reality.

Once again, these apply to all book summaries and the services that provide them. With those in mind, let’s turn our attention to the Blinkist app user experience.

How does it feel to use the Blinkist app?

Downloading the app is totally free. When you open the app for the very first time, you’ll get a short tutorial of how everything works.

One of the first things you’ll see is that the app only has 3 tabs for you to pick from:.

Discover. This is where you can explore their library and discover new titles.
Library. Here, you’ll have access to your individual choice of books.
You. This is where your settings and saved highlights are.

This is dazzling, since it makes browsing the app and picking what to do truly easy. Let’s look at the private tabs.

Blinkist very heavily advertised at me, so I decided to give it a go. Blinkist is an app that has lots of features, they have audio books, they have podcasts and initial content, but the main selling point, the thing that they advertise, the thing that makes them different from other audiobook apps, is that they claim they can offer you the bottom lines of any non-fiction book in 15 minutes. Basically, they are advertising themselves as an alternative to listening or checking out books to complete audio books by, and I quote here from their site: “Listen or read to the essential concepts from best-selling nonfiction titles in 15 minutes” So the idea is that you get their app, you register for it, and you can listen to as lots of books as possible that are condensed to 15 minutes, and they declare that you will still get the essential ideas and an understanding of what the book is about.

I was dubious, I am a reader and even though I don’t check out much non-fiction, because I much choose reading fiction, I do read some of it, some of the books that I saw marketed on Blinkist as 15-minute summaries, I simply could not think of being condensable into 15 minutes. Because we are talking about some really big books, about heavy, intricate concepts that I just didn’t think you can squeeze into 15 minutes. Okay, so I have actually got the Blinkist app in the Google Play Shop and I’m going to set up that. Calibre Plugin Getabstract
