When reviewing a tool or service, many people immediately jump into what they like and do not like. That’s an error, especially when looking at one of many services in a particular category. In this case, book summaries. Getabstract Student Pricing

The idea of a book summary itself has some specific benefits and disadvantages. Naturally, these will move to Blinkist and any other book summary service. You can’t actually blame a particular business for them.

Let’s first take a look at those, so we can better determine the distinct benefits and drawbacks of Blinkist later.

Pros of reading book summaries:.
You’ll skip all unneeded details. This is particularly helpful for books that just make one or a couple of assets. It likewise assists you prevent bad books completely.
You can discover more and different topics faster. Instead of being stuck on one book about meditation for a month, you can read a summary in a few minutes. You can leap to the next mindfulness book or a new topic altogether.
You’ll likely remember more without remembering. Considering that book summaries focus around realities and short methods to show them, you’ll likely come away from one summary with 3-5 things you’ll remember. It’s difficult to effectively memorize anything if you read a full book without taking notes.
Cons of reading book summaries:.
You’ll lose most of the story and humor of the book. This is bad, due to the fact that it makes checking out fun. Depending on how much you connect with the story, it also assists you remember a lot, even if you may need to take notes.
The best books strike hard with every page. Some books you simply have to check out in complete to get the most out of them.
Due to an absence of context, you may analyze facts the wrong way. In some cases, a summary mentions an idea one method, whereas the context of the book sets it up in another. Because that context is now missing out on, you’re analyzing the idea differently and therefore get an impression the author didn’t want you to have.
You are now trusting not simply the author of the book, but also whoever composed the summary. If the summary author does a bad job, you lose. For example, they might stop working to consist of an essential story therefore you won’t remember an important truth.

Once again, these apply to all book summaries and the services that provide them. So with those in mind, let’s turn our attention to the Blinkist app user experience.

How does it feel to utilize the Blinkist app?

Initially, the Blinkist app is readily available for both iPhone and Android. Downloading the app is free. You can register using your email address or Facebook account. You’ll get a brief tutorial of how whatever works when you open the app for the very first time.

One of the first things you’ll see is that the app just has three tabs for you to pick from:.

Discover. This is where you can explore their library and find new titles.
Library. Here, you’ll have access to your individual choice of books.
You. This is where your settings and saved highlights are.

This is brilliant, due to the fact that it makes navigating the app and choosing what to do truly easy. Let’s take a look at the specific tabs.

Blinkist very heavily promoted at me, so I decided to try. Blinkist is an app that has lots of features, they have audio books, they have podcasts and initial content, but the main selling point, the important things that they promote, the thing that makes them different from other audiobook apps, is that they declare they can give you the bottom lines of any non-fiction book in 15 minutes. Basically, they are marketing themselves as an alternative to listening or reading books to complete audio books by, and I quote here from their website: “Check out or listen to the essential concepts from very popular nonfiction titles in 15 minutes” So the concept is that you get their app, you sign up for it, and you can listen to as numerous books as possible that are condensed to 15 minutes, and they declare that you will still get the crucial ideas and an understanding of what the book has to do with.

I was suspicious, I am a reader and even though I do not check out much non-fiction, since I much prefer checking out fiction, I do read some of it, some of the books that I saw advertised on Blinkist as 15-minute summaries, I just could not envision being condensable into 15 minutes. Due to the fact that we are talking about some actually huge books, about heavy, complex principles that I simply didn’t think you can squeeze into 15 minutes. Okay, so I’ve got the Blinkist app in the Google Play Store and I’m going to install that. Getabstract Student Pricing
