Whether it was Gunship and the pounding Drone Racing– the kick drum alone makes it worth having a look at– Woojer Edge Haptic Vest… or The Word Alive’s Quit While You’re Ahead, I adored listening to music in this way. It’s someplace in between being down the front at a gig and standing beside a bass bin in a nightclub, and if you’re a fan of music the Woojer Vest Edge brings it to life in such a way you can’t quickly replicate. If you’re a fan of classical music or 60s pop there’s going to be less of a draw, but if your taste alters towards the much heavier end you’ll find it tough to return.
I followed up my musical jaunts with some film time. This was where I took my very first venture into VR with the Vest Edge, and the established on Oculus Quest 2 was speedy and simple. Taking the 3.5 mm feed from the Oculus into the Vest Edge’s control unit, you then attach your earphones in series prior to depositing them on your head. I fretted that there ‘d be too many loose cable televisions, but with some positioning under and around the Vest Edge there was never anything in the way, and nor did it limit my movement.
You’re best served here with some powerful shows; I’m thinking more Michael Bay than Michael Moore. While you can have this set up for regular watching– it’s a cinch if you’re hooked into your DualSense or Xbox controller– VR viewing is categorically the method forward. If you’ve taken a look at apps like Prime Video VR or Bigscreen you’ll know that they put you in a virtual cinema, and watching smash hits in VR can be pretty unique. Including the Vest Edge suggestions things strongly into ‘nearly as good as the real thing’.
I opted for Spider-Man Homecoming as my first port of call, and things began reasonably subdued. I do not think I ‘d spent much time thinking of how filmmakers tweak the sound mix to draw the audience in, but the absence of radio frequencies in the opening was hammered home once they appeared, including major depth to both the soundtrack and the superhero action. I enjoyed this; it’s absolutely like having your own cinema, and considered that I ‘d combined the Vest Edge with Razer’s haptic-toting Nari Ultimate I was experiencing every blow, every blast, much like you would in a well-equipped movie theatre. No, wait. It’s much better than that
